| Natural methods of contraception based on determination of the fertile and infertile days in a menstrual cycle and abstinence from sexual intercourse on fertile days. Also called periodic abstinence. The fertile days can be determined by regular measurement of the basal body temperature, by observation of the cervical mucus (Billings method, cervical mucus method), by charting the menstrual cycle (calendar method) or by the symptothermal method (combination of temperature measurement and observation of cervical mucus). |
